SINGAPORE, 23 JUNE 2024 – The Coach Education and Development (CED) Department recently concluded the fourth part of the 2023 FAS/AFC ‘B’ Diploma (SG-Coach Level 2 Full Integration) Coaching Course at ActiveSG Football Academy, marking a significant milestone in the journey of 23 dedicated participants.

Held from 3 to 8 June 2024, the course spanned locations at ActiveSG Sport Village @ Jurong Town and Jalan Besar Stadium, providing a comprehensive educational experience tailored for ActiveSG Football Academy coaches.

Under the mentorship of Lead Coach Developer Mr. Loh Ngiap Tai and Assistant Coach Developer Mr. Abdul Musawir Bin Abdul Gany, the course was structured into three segments: Pre-Course, In-Course, and Post-Course. The fourth part, which was the final installment of the In-Course segment, focused on critical topics such as “Season Plan Interview” and “Work / Mentoring Experience Reflection.”

A pivotal aspect of the course was the practical assessments, with participants completing their second practical assessment during Part 4. These sessions were meticulously recorded and reviewed, fostering constructive feedback sessions with Coach Developers to enhance coaching proficiency.

Woodlands Secondary School was one of the schools who participated in the practical assessments, June 2024.

Realism was paramount during practical assessments, facilitated by external players from Admiralty CSN U17, Fuchun Secondary School, Tasek Sailors U17, Woodlands Secondary School, and Verde Cresta Combined SC U17. This collaboration ensured participants could apply theoretical knowledge to real-world coaching scenarios effectively.

Looking ahead to the Post-Course segment, participants will undertake their third practical assessment in their coaching environments. This includes self-recording coaching sessions for evaluation and feedback from Coach Developers, culminating in the Intermediate Sport Science exam.

Reflecting on their experiences, course participants like Mr. Alif Hafiz Bin Masnor from ActiveSG Football Academy Ang Mo Kio Centre appreciated the balance between theory and practice: “Personally, I felt that this 2023 FAS/AFC ‘B’ Diploma (SG-Coach Level 2 Full Integration) Coaching Course (ActiveSG Football Academy) has provided a good balance between the theoretical & practical components. The 7-month gap between Part 2 and Part 4 provided more time for me to continue developing my coaching knowledge & capabilities. The periodization & match analysis presentations also allowed me to apply the principles & concepts to real-life situations, making the learning experience more authentic.”

Meanwhile, Mr. Kwa Jun Leng Raymond of ActiveSG Football Academy Bukit Gombak Centre praised the course for its comprehensive approach to football tactics and the supportive learning environment fostered by knowledgeable Coach Developers: ““The 2023 FAS/AFC ‘B’ Diploma (SG-Coach Level 2 Full Integration) Coaching Course (ActiveSG Football Academy) provided an in-depth understanding of football tactics, seamlessly integrating theoretical knowledge with practical application. The Coach Developers were highly knowledgeable, experienced, and approachable, creating an environment conducive to learning and development. This comprehensive approach ensured a well-rounded coaching education, enhancing both my tactical acumen and practical coaching skills.”
