Police SA Beat Warriors To Lift Women’s Challenge Cup

SINGAPORE, 21 DECEMBER 2015: Police Sports Association (Police SA) beat uniformed rivals Warriors FC 2-0 last night at the Jalan Besar Stadium to be crowned Women’s Challenge Cup champions. Manami Fukuzawa scored one and created the other as Police SA raced to a two-goal lead by half-time and held Warriors at bay to clinch the victory.

The first goal came when Fukuzawa found the net with a first-time finish in the 33rd minute after good approach work from Azureen Abdul Rahman. Just eight minutes later, she turned provider after a jinking run down the left wing by pulling the ball back for Fatin Afiqah, who converted the chance.

In the evening’s other match, the H2O/ITE Dream Team secured third place by beating Arion Football Academy 3-0 in the 3rd Place Playoff.

Arion enjoyed a brighter start to the match, but Dream Team’s coach Sreenivasan Selvakumar made some inspired changes, with all three of their goals being scored by substitutes.

Nuriah Noor opened scoring in the 39th minute, just three minutes after being introduced. Teammate Sarah Chu broke the offside trap and latched onto a long ball, squaring for Nuriah to curl into the bottom corner.

Half-time substitute Tressa Fernandez then doubled the lead in the 51st minute with an inch-perfect chip from just outside the box, leaving Arion goalkeeper Pamela Kong with no chance.

Any chance of an Arion fightback was killed off with the third and final goal in the 65th minute, scored by Stephanie Dominguez with a powerful low shot. H2O/ITE Dream Team were able to keep Arion comfortable at bay for the rest of the match.
