PVF – Vietnam wins inaugural International Challenge Cup 2016
SINGAPORE, 28 NOVEMBER 2016: PVF – Vietnam emerged victorious at the inaugural Football Association of Singapore (FAS) Under-15 International Challenge Cup after beating Johor Darul Ta’zim FC (JDT) 7-1 in the final yesterday evening at Jalan Besar Stadium.
Earlier in the day, the National Football Academy (NFA) Under-14 and Under-15 teams battled for third placing, with NFA Under-15 winning 4-3 on penalties after a 4-4 draw.
FAS Technical Director Michel Sablon presented trophies to the top two teams. Medals were also awarded to the third and fourth placed teams.
The other teams that played in the weeklong tournament were Matsumoto Yamaga FC from Japan, Mendiola FC from Philippines, St. Monica’s College (Northern Football Academy) from Australia, and Singapore’s Centres of Excellence Combined Team.
Mr Sablon said: “We are delighted that through the International Challenge Cup, our Singapore boys were able to pit their skills against other high-calibre players and make new friends in the process. Such international exchanges are significant as self-assessment to measure the players’ levels and the progress, since we seek to continually improve the standards of our youth football in Singapore. Congratulations to PVF- Vietnam for their win.”
