Reconnecting with FAS Grassroots Coach Developers through webinar with FIFA expert
SINGAPORE, 17 SEPTEMBER 2020 – The Football Association of Singapore (FAS) recently conducted the FAS Grassroots Coach Developers’ Webinar, with the help of FIFA Technical Expert (Growth and Development), Mr Jamie Houchen.
Held in early August, the 90-minute session was attended by 14 participants and four FAS staff members – Technical Director Mr Joseph Palatsides, Head (Coach Education & Development, or CED) Mr Zainudeen Hassan, Senior Executive (CED) Mr Nazir Hamid, Under-16 Women’s National Team Head Coach Ms Chris Yip-Au.
All participants had attended the first ever FIFA Grassroots Coach Developer Course in September 2019, which was organised by FAS with the support of FIFA. Held over five days at Jalan Besar Stadium and also conducted by Mr Houchen, the course aimed to increase the quality of the selected coaches – who came from a Singapore Premier League club, ActiveSG Football Academy, schools and FAS Women’s & Grassroots Department – and help them progress as Coach Developers.
Since the conclusion of that course, CED has remained in constant communication with Mr Houchen and decided to organise this webinar to reconnect with the participants. It also served as a platform to provide updates on post-course developments and sharing of experiences and related challenges in facilitating Grassroots coaching courses. The returning Mr Houchen provided useful information to further support the development and enhance the competencies of the Coach Developers.
The topics covered are as below:

FAS Head (CED), Mr Zainudeen, added: “The first-ever FIFA Grassroots Coach Developers Course was conducted almost a year ago, and this online delivery provides a great opportunity to re-connect with the Grassroots Coach Developers. Due to restrictions brought about by the COVID-19 situation, this platform offers sharing of useful information and to gather updates on the Coach Developers’ developments”.
The FAS would also like to extend its gratitude to Mr Houchen for taking the time to provide his expertise in the webinar and look forward to collaborating with him again in future.
