SINGAPORE, 24 JANUARY 2015: As part of continuing efforts to improve the knowledge and standards of Singapore referees , the Football Association of Singapore’s (FAS) Referees Department has organised the FIFA Referees Seminar 2015. Thirty referees who will be taking charge of S.League and Prime League matches are attending the Seminar, including Women’s FIFA Assistant Referee Ms Rohaidah Nasir.

Conducting the Seminar are FIFA Technical Instructor Mr Rodzali Yacob and FIFA Fitness Instructor Mr C Ravichandran, both from Malaysia. They are ably assisted by seven local instructors, and will be helping our referees to work towards uniformity in the interpretation and application of the Laws of the Game. The experienced instructors will also be sharing their knowledge, recollecting and reinforcing new ideas and techniques to maximise performance.

“One of the key things I shared with the participants was how to control a match, because it is important for any referee to be in control. I have been impressed with the referees and I think some of them have the potential to progress to the elite levels,” said Mr Rodzali.

“We are grateful to have two esteemed FIFA instructors here to conduct the course for us. As a forward-looking organisation, FAS is always looking to advance our human capital and there is no better way to do so than to learn from the best,” said Mr K Visva Nathan, Head of the FAS Referees Department.

FIFA referee Jansen Foo, who is participating in the Seminar, has found it useful.

“We have taken a break since the season ended in November, so it is a good refresher for us to gear up for the coming year. We are learning about how top referees handle certain situations, to help us achieve more consistency and a common understanding in the interpretation of the Laws of the Game,” said Mr Foo.

The Seminar began on Wednesday and will run till Sunday 25 January 2015.
