Release Of Starhub League Cup 2014 Groupings
SINGAPORE, 20 JUNE 2014: Singapore football fans can look forward to two weeks of non-stop pulsating action next month with the return of the StarHub League Cup (7 – 25 July 2014). This year’s tournament, which will be the eighth edition, will also mark a new milestone. For the first time, the National Football League (NFL) will be represented in the annual competition by its two top clubs, Police Sports Association (Police SA) and Singapore Recreation Club (SRC).
Last year’s StarHub League Cup featured one team from the NFL, Admiralty FC, who won a play-off competition. This year’s NFL representatives earned their spots by finishing as the top two clubs in last season‚Äôs NFL Division One competition.
It is hoped that this invitation to the top NFL clubs each year will further spur the NFL clubs to compete for top honours in the NFL. Like all cup competitions, there is always the possibility of an upset which will further add excitement to the competition.
Indeed, the StarHub League Cup has a proud history of thrills and surprises, with six different winners in its seven-year history. The two developmental teams in the S.League, Courts Young Lions and Harimau Muda B, will sit out this year’s tournament.
