SINGAPORE, 17 JULY 2019 – The first edition of the new Football Association of Singapore (FAS) Grassroots Coaching Course kicked off two weeks ago on 6 and 7 July.

A total of 20 participants took to the Jalan Besar Stadium and People’s Association pitches to undergo theory and practical modules under the guidance of Coach Developers Md Herman and Isa Haleem.

This course is a stand-alone coaching course that prepares a coach to conduct sessions at grassroots level and is designed to allow participants to take a more hands-on approach to learning.

The participants will now be attached to a ActiveSG Football Academy centre to complete 16 hours, thereafter which they will graduate with a FAS Grassroots Coaching certification.

FAS Head, Coaching Education & Development, Mr Zainudeen Hassan said: “The new course covers salient and relevant topics for a grassroots coach. During their attachment, they will get the chance to work with more experienced coaches and assist in the planning, set-up and execution of training sessions. Further to this, they will also be given feedback and mentored by these coaches. After their 16 hours are completed, the participants will return to us for a reflection and sharing of their experience within two months.”

Looking ahead, FAS is planning to roll out a Level 2 Grassroots Coaching Course in 2020.
