Royal Arion are the 2023 FAS Women’s National League champions

SINGAPORE, 15 OCTOBER 2023 – Royal Arion FC clinched their first Women’s National League title in a hard-fought battle at Woodlands Stadium on Sunday night. Iskandar Abdul Latiff’s charges secured a 2-1 victory over Mattar Sailors in the final, maintaining their winning streak since the start of this season’s competition, earning them the coveted trophy at the final whistle and $8,000 in prize money.

 

Mattar Sailors’s Raeka Ee broke the deadlock seven minutes into the match, and the young Sailors managed to hold off their opponent, maintaining a 1-0 lead in the first half. However, in the second half, Royal Arion pulled up their socks, and displayed an incredible comeback – Serena Bok, with the equaliser before former Thai Women’s World Cup player Orapin Waenngeon rounded off the victory with a goal in the 67th and 70th minute respectively on a memorable night.

 

Royal Arion became the fifth winner in as many editions of the WNL, following Changi Village SRC (2017), Tampines Changkat CSC (2018), Tanjong Pagar United (2019), and Police Sports Association (2022). Orapin’s stunning 35-goal tally secured her the title of the top scorer.

 

 Former Thai Women’s World Cup player Orapin Waenngeon is the top scorer of the 2023 season, tallying 35 goals, October 2023.

 

First runner-up Mattar Sailors received S$5,000 in prize money for their efforts. Admiralty FC claimed third place following a resounding 5-0 victory over Ayer Rajah FC earning themselves S$3,500 in prize money.

 

The final marked the conclusion of the 2023 season, which kicked off in August. Eight clubs participated in a single round-robin format, and the top four teams advanced to the semi-finals, ultimately vying for a spot in the final.
