Shawal Anuar withdraws from Singapore squad
SINGAPORE, 28 MAY 2022 – Shawal Anuar will not be involved with the Singapore Men’s National Team for their forthcoming Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Asian Cup™ 2023 Qualifiers Final Round campaign.
The 31-year-old forward, who plays for Hougang United, recently sustained an injury and has been ruled out for the Lions’ international commitments in June, which include a friendly against Kuwait in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates on 1 June and the three Group F matches against the Krygyz Republic, Tajikistan and Myanmar in Bishkek.
As Head Coach Takayuki Nishigaya has elected to not call up a replacement, the Lions will travel with a 26-man squad.
The team is scheduled to depart Singapore on 29 May for the United Arab Emirates for a training camp that includes the Kuwait friendly, before then traveling to Bishkek on 2 June. There, the team will contest the third and final round of Asian Cup qualifying between 8 to 14 June. The six group winners and five best second-placed teams will advance to the Finals.
