Singapore depart for UEFA Assist U-17 Girls Competition
SINGAPORE, 22 MAY 2022 – The Singapore Under-19 women’s national team departed to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia today for the UEFA Assist Under-17 Girls Competition held from 24 – 28 May 2022.
The 18-strong squad, who are all born after 1 June 2004, was selected by former Lioness and Head Coach Chris Yip-Au. Singapore will take on Malaysia, Uzbekistan and hosts Mongolia at the Mongolia Football Federation Football Centre.
Yip-Au, who holds an Asian Football Confederation ‘B’ coaching license, said: “We built on the girls’ momentum from the National School Games and prepared for this tournament for the last three weeks. We were also fortunate to have a few friendly matches to work on team chemistry and confidence. They are incredibly excited to compete, especially as it is their first overseas competition since the Covid-19 pandemic.”
Interim Technical Director Philippe Aw will also be attached to the team, alongside five other officials.
The tournament will serve as crucial preparation for the upcoming ASEAN Football Federation Under-19 Women’s Championship, that is slated to be held in Jakarta, Indonesia from 16 – 31 July 2022.
Singapore will be led by 17-year-old midfielder Kyra Elise Taylor, and have the experience from defender Siti Nurerwadah Erwan, who scored on her senior debut against Seychelles last month in the FAS Tri-Nations Series 2022 (Women’s).
