Said caretaker coach V. Sundram Moorthy, who attended the draw in Abu Dhabi: “We have been drawn against good teams in our group. At this stage, we are aware that there are no easy games and we will prepare ourselves accordingly. We are looking forward to the first match on 28 March, and will try our best to qualify for the 2019 AFC Asian Cup in the United Arab Emirates.”
The National Team progressed to this final round of qualifiers by finishing third in the previous round – behind Japan and Syria – despite some solid performances in the 0-0 draw against Japan at the Saitama Stadium, and a battling performance which ended in an unfortunate 0-1 loss away to Syria.
