Singapore To Take On Myanmar And Laos In June
Two matches lined up following the cancellation of Causeway Challenge 2013
SINGAPORE, 24 May 2013: The Football Association of Singapore (FAS) today announced that the Singapore National Team will play international friendly matches in Yangon (Myanmar) and Vientiane (Laos) on June 4 and June 7 respectively.
The matches were scheduled after the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) informed us on 22 May 2013 that their national football team will not be able to participate in the Causeway Challenge 2013 due to the unavailability of its first and second national team on the two dates which were earlier agreed upon by both sides.
Singapore National Team Manager Azrulnizam Shah said: “Like our fans and stakeholders, we were looking forward to the Causeway Challenge which had been agreed upon earlier and hence we are disappointed that it has now been cancelled. In line with one of the key objectives of our Strategic Plan – to allow our players to gain necessary international match exposure, we have since arranged two away international friendly matches for Singapore national football team – against Myanmar and Laos – during this period. We are looking forward to these matches and we will announce the squad list by Monday.”
