Singapore To Take On Syria And Cambodia In Lead-up To Suzuki Cup
SINGAPORE, 31 OCTOBER 2016: Singapore Head Coach V. Sundram Moorthy today announced a 28-man squad which will take on Syria and Cambodia as part of the National Team’s final phase of preparations for the 2016 ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Suzuki Cup.
In addition to the squad which travelled to Hong Kong earlier this month, Coach Sundram has included Shahdan Sulaiman and Shahfiq Ghani in the delegation which will travel to Doha, Qatar for a training camp to prepare for the AFF Suzuki Cup 2016.
Following their return to Singapore, the Lions will play Syria in Negeri Sembilan on 9 November before concluding their Suzuki Cup preparations with a home game against Cambodia at Bishan Stadium on 13 November. Tickets for the match against Cambodia will be on sale from Friday 4 November, with prices starting from $4 for concession tickets. Please see below for full ticketing information.
Coach Sundram said: “Since taking over the National Team, we experimented with different playing formations and styles and also gave opportunities to many players to prove themselves at the international level to be included in the final 23-man squad for the competition.
“The opponents in our upcoming friendly matches are strong in different aspects and they will provide a good test for our boys. At the same time, the centralised training camp over the next two weeks will allow us to further strengthen camaraderie in the team.”
National captain Shahril Ishak said: “The FAS management, coaches and backroom staff have done their part to prepare us for the tournament and it is now our turn to deliver the results. We have a good team of experienced and young players and we are raring to go. We hope our fans will come and support us at Bishan Stadium on 13 November and follow us throughout the Suzuki Cup 2016 journey.”
Coach Sundram concluded: “After five months with the National Team, our boys are prepared for the AFF Suzuki Cup. We are grateful to the FAS ExCo and management for their fullest support towards our National Team’s requests and preparations for the Suzuki Cup. Being placed in the same group as defending champions Thailand, co-host Philippines and Indonesia makes it a tough challenge for us, but we will remain fully focused and demonstrate the Singapore Spirit as we strive to do well in the competition.”
