Lionesses drawn in Group D for Olympic 2024 qualifiers

SINGAPORE, 12 JANUARY 2023 – Singapore will face Sri Lanka, Mongolia and Thailand in the first round of qualifying for the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament Paris 2024.

The official draw was conducted earlier today afternoon in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for Round 1 of the Qualifiers, which saw 26 teams drawn into five groups of four and two groups of three. The competition will be held from 3 to 11 April 2023.

Each group will play in one centralised venue, which will be confirmed by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) at a later date. The Lionesses, ranked 134th in the world, will face Mongolia (129th) first before taking on Thailand (41st) and Sri Lanka (155th).

Only the seven group winners will progress to Round 2, where they will be joined by the five highest-ranked teams in Asia – DPR Korea, Japan, Australia, China PR and Korea Republic. The four best sides will then face off in Round 3 on a two-legged home-and-away basis, with the two eventual winners qualifying for the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament in Paris in 2024.

This will be Singapore’s fourth time participating in the Women’s Olympic qualifiers since first taking part in 1996.
