BISHKEK, 13 JUNE 2022 – Singapore Men’s National Team defender Safuwan Baharudin has arrived back in Singapore today to deal with an urgent family matter.

Safuwan had informed Head Coach Takayuki Nishigaya of his situation ahead of last Saturday’s Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Asian Cup™ 2023 Qualifiers Final Round match against Tajikistan.

He will miss the final Group F match against Myanmar tomorrow, having completed each of the first two matches against Kyrgyz Republic (8 June) and Tajikistan, as well as the international friendly against Kuwait (1 June).

The 30-year-old has the complete backing of Nishigaya, who said: “Some things in life are more important than football and Safuwan has my full support in his decision to return home. I wish to make it clear that even as he was dealing with this matter, Safuwan has remained exemplary in his conduct and displayed complete professionalism during this international window.”

Safuwan has requested for privacy and the FAS kindly asks for the player’s wish to be respected.
