SINGAPORE, 9 JUNE 2021 – The second module of Football Association of Singapore (FAS) / Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Professional Football Diploma (Pro-Diploma) Coaching Course has successfully concluded last week.

As a follow up to the first module that was held on 17 and 18 May, the second part was conducted on 3 and 4 June from 9am to 6pm each day via online conferencing platform Zoom.

The course focused on Football Conditioning this time and was conducted by Damian Roden, who holds a UEFA Pro Licence as well as a Master of Science Degree in Sports Science. With over 20 years of working experience, he has served as Head of Sports Science at notable English Premier League (EPL) clubs such as Manchester City Football Club and Stoke City Football Club. He also oversaw the Wales National Team as Head of Performance, capping an illustrious career thus far.

The same 19 participants who attended the first module continued in this second module, where the main topics revolved around Physical Conditioning, Season Planner and Periodisation as well as Injury Management.

Gavin Lee, current Head Coach of Tampines Rovers Football Club, expressed his relief that the course was allowed to continue in spite of the heightened Covid-19 measures and said, “Damien provided the group with good objective knowledge as well as sharing with us his experiences applying the knowledge at the clubs that he has worked at before. He was very generous with his time and the session has given me a lot to reflect on. I believe it will help with my development within the football conditioning aspect of the game.”

Lead Coach Developer, Rob Sherman, added, “It was a real bonus to maintain the momentum and undertake the conditioning element of the course. Damian’s depth of knowledge and his experience as a coach educator was invaluable.”

Upon the successful conclusion of the second module of this course, FAS Head of Coach Education and Development, Mohamed Zainudeen Hassan said, “I am heartened to see that the coaches were fully engaged in this session and participated actively in the breakout rooms that were set up for group discussion and sharing of views and experiences. The questions that came up during the sessions were especially thought provoking and showed the receptiveness of the coaches. We are looking forward to the commencement of the third module of the course.”

The third module of the course is scheduled to take place in end August and early September this year, barring any changes due to the evolving Covid-19 situation.
