SINGAPORE, 1 NOVEMBER 2022 –
The Football Association of Singapore (FAS) Coach Education and Development (CED) Department conducted a Continuous Coach Education (CCE) sharing session last month for 33 coaches.

Led by FAS Technical Director, Michael Browne, the session took place on 14 October at Jalan Besar Stadium for the participants, who were from Centres of Excellence (COE) and the Unleash the Roar-School Football Academy (UTR-SFA). It covered the topic of designing and delivering positioning games.

The Englishman, who joined the FAS in July, was delighted to get to meet the coaches and enjoyed the session. “Such sessions are important for several reasons – firstly, they enable me as Technical Director to interact and get to know local coaches and secondly, they will hopefully assist our coaches in terms of designing and delivering sessions,” he told FAS.org.sg. “The session gave coaches the opportunity to design and deliver a sample practice and then get feedback from each other. The level of enthusiasm and commitment shown by the coaches who participated was very pleasing.”

As CCE sessions are designed to have an open learning environment where everyone involved can feel comfortable to exchange ideas, the coaches took the opportunity to do so in order to enhance their experience.

“The sharing session conducted provided a valuable takeaway for me as a young coach,” Mr Afiq Yahya, a UTR-SFA Coach, said. “He conducted the session on Positional Games, which are relatable to the modern game. As an UTR-SFA Coach, it was a great experience to attend alongside with COE coaches as we shared our coaching experiences and ideas.”

Hougang United COE U21 Coach, Mr Marko Kraljevic, added: “The CCE sharing session was a great opportunity to meet FAS Technical Director Mr Browne and learn from him about his philosophy and plans to improve football in Singapore. It was also a great chance to collaborate and share ideas with COE and UTR-SFA coaches. I look forward to more sharing session like this because it gives me the opportunity to continuously learn about the game and improve myself as a coach.”

There will be more of such opportunities for coaches to interact with Brown, according to Mr Zainudeen Hassan, FAS, Head, CED. “This session was a good platform for Technical Director to share his wealth of knowledge and experience to our COE and SFA-UTR coaches. His interactive, delivery method also allowed the coaches to quickly plan and deliver a topic within the session. We look forward to having him conduct more of such sessions for other coaches as well.”

Mr Philippe Aw, FAS Head of Methodology and Assistant Technical Director, said: “Such communities of practice benefits the development of Singapore football. Moving forward, we will reach out to more coaches in our aim to improve the levels.”
