SINGAPORE, 6 OCTOBER 2020 – A trio of Singapore national youth footballers are representing the nation in a regional virtual social responsibility programme.

Karan Sobti, Venetia Lim and Dhaniyah Qasimah are Singapore’s Youth Social Responsibility Ambassadors in the e-Goal programme, which was launched in the ASEAN Zone last week.

The e-Goal virtual programme is a partnership between AFC, through its AFC Dream Asia Foundation, with Jordan-based youth development organisation, Aurora for Training and Development. It aims to empower Ambassadors with innovative and educational opportunities through which they can engage with fellow players and establish a support network for development.

Under-16 goalkeeper and captain Karan, took part in the first ASEAN Zone edition of Youth Perspectives, where the 16-year-old shared via video conference his thoughts on various topics, such as the core values of responsible young sports leaders.

Venetia and Dhaniyah, both 16 and already capped at senior level, will feature in subsequent workshops.

The three Singaporeans form part of a 24-strong group of ambassadors from ten Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Member Associations – Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

This ASEAN programme came off the heels of the East Zone Programme, after a hugely successful pilot project in the West Zone earlier this year.

The first workshop, which took place last week, focused on how sport can be a platform to accelerate progress towards the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Participants will also delve into topics such as Philanthropy in Football, Diversity and Inclusion, Safeguarding and Protection, Mental Health, Civic Engagement and Participation as well as Digital Citizenship and Social Entrepreneurship.

The FAS is happy to support the AFC-Aurora e-Goal programme and look forward to Karan, Venetia and Dhaniyah acquiring valuable insight to inspire their fellow youth.
