SINGAPORE, 30 AUGUST 2023 –
The Under-15 National Development Centre (NDC) Head Coach Angel Toledano has called up 22 players for the Lion City Cup which is set to return for the 27th edition next month after a seven-year hiatus.

The Young Lions will play against Selangor FC at 8pm this Friday (1 September 2023) in the semi-final round, while Borneo F.C. will meet BG Pathum at 5pm on the same day. The third-place play-off and final will be held two days later. All matches will be played at Jalan Besar Stadium.

Initially comprising of a group of 26 players, the U-15s have been training four times a week since the centralised training started on 14 August 2023 to prepare for the tournament. As part of their preparations, the team also played friendly games, including against the teams of Malaysian side Johor Darul Ta’zim FC U15 and Geylang International U17. The final squad of 22 players was selected on Monday, August 28th, ahead of the team’s first match this Friday. The Lion City Cup will be their first international tournament as a team.

Notably, 15-year-olds Uchenna Eziakor and Nathan Mao are among some of the players to watch out for. Uchenna is among the eight recipients of Unleash The Roar! (UTR)’s first overseas football scholarship, while Nathan made Singapore Premier League history in March this year when he made his professional debut for the Lion City Sailors at the age of 15 years and five days, becoming the youngest-ever footballer to achieve this feat.

Head Coach Toledano will be assisted by Ron Yu, a full-time coach from the UTR! project, and Patrick Paran, Head Coach of the ActiveSG Football Academy U-15 Development Centre team.  All three have been involved in the selection and preparatory phase of the team since August 2023.  A UEFA Pro Licence holder, Toledano’s previous coaching stints include Barcelona’s famed youth academy La Masia, China’s U-23 team, the now-dissolved Chinese Super League side Tianjin Tianhai FC, and the assistant coach of the China U16 team. Most recently, he was the Head Coach of the Singapore U16 Men’s team, where he led the team in last year’s AFC U17 Asian Cup Qualifiers and AFF U-16 Boys Championship.

Ticket sales for all matches of the Lion City Cup 2023 can be purchased via the FAS website (https://www.fas.org.sg/tickets/). Grandstand tickets will be priced at $10.00 for adults, and $5 for concession for a single matchday. Each ticket will allow fans to watch both matches per matchday, with each person allowed to purchase a maximum of twelve tickets per transaction, across any category, per matchday.

Fans will enjoy a 20 per cent discount off the full price of standard tickets (both adult and concession respectively) if they purchase a full bundle for both matchdays.
