Bishan Arsenal need win to clinch WPL title

SINGAPORE5 October 2007: Bishan Arsenal head into Saturday’s final match of the Women’s Premier League against Police FC needing no less than a win to pip Young Women to the title.

This fixture, kicking off at 7.30pm at Jalan Besar Stadium, remains the only outstanding one of a campaign that has seen plenty of twists among the title protagonists.

Last Saturday, the Young Women kept their title hopes alive with a last-ditch equaliser against Police to draw 1-1. They then swooped to the top of the table with a resounding 8-0 thrashing of a hapless United World College on Wednesday 3 October.

Those two results ended any title aspirations that Police were still harbouring. The law-women can still have a big say in the title chase though and are still in the running to finish in second place at least.

The prize presentation ceremony will take place following the match. The Guest-of-Honour is Mdm Cynthia Phua, MP for Aljunied GRC, Council Member and Chairperson, Women’s Football Committee, Football Association of Singapore.

The Equation:

– Bishan Arsenal needs a win to win the title. Police will then finish fourth behind Arion Women’s in third.

– Police have no chance of winning the title but can finish second with a win.

– If the match ends in a draw, Young Women will be crowned champions with Bishan Arsenal finishing second and Police will overtake Arion Women’s into third place on goal difference.
