Football: not just for boys

SINGAPORE, 9 JANUARY 2019 – As part of the Football Association of Singapore’s (FAS) outreach efforts, FAS coaches Chen WanXin, Angeline Chua, Izyani Noorghani and Chris Yip-Au conducted a two-day football clinic for students from the CHIJ Our Lady of Good Counsel (OLGC) last week.

Held on 3 and 4 January, over 400 Primary Two, Four and Six students participated in the programme which saw them participating in fun drills and small-sided games.

WanXin said: “The girls were brilliant during the clinic and I could tell that they enjoyed themelves. The school has given us positive feedback on the programme as well.

“We have been conducting football clinics at the school to introduce and promote football among girls by providing them with opportunities to try out the sport in a fun and enjoyable way. We hope to reach out to more schools to raise the profile of women’s football in Singapore.”

With CHIJ OLGC working towards setting up a football CCA, the FAS hopes that more schools will be encouraged to introduce more girls to the sport.

The coaches also took the opportunity to promote the FAS Women’s Development Programme, which is conducted weekly at Bowen Secondary School every Sunday from 8am to 10am for girls aged five to 15.
