Singapore To Take On Bahrain Asian Games Team
SINGAPORE, 1 AUGUST 2014: The Football Association of Singapore (FAS) is pleased to announce that a Singapore Team eligible for the Asian Games will play a friendly match against their Bahrain counterparts on 5 August 2014 (Tuesday). The match will be played at Al Ahli Stadium in Bahrain, with kick-off scheduled for 7.30pm local time (12.30am on 6 August 2014, Singapore time).
The result of the match will be compiled along with the match results obtained by the Under-23 National Team this year, as part of our submission to the Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC) for a place in the Team Singapore contingent that will be competing in the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon.
“Playing against Bahrain’s Asian Games team will be important as it will allow us to know what we need to do to improve ourselves and reach that level. We will be building on the recent training tour to Austria where the team played against top European players; it will also serve as part of the preparations for next year’s SEA Games in Singapore,” said Bernd Stange, Head Coach, National Teams.
“It is essential for the long-term development of our young players that they are exposed to top-class international competition. We are keen to participate in the 2014 Asian Games as it will be an excellent platform for them to gain such experience. We hope we can convince the SNOC with a good performance in this match. It is always an honour and privilege for the players to represent Singapore, so I am sure everybody will do their best for Singapore,” he added.
